Centre Web in Brackmills Northampton, part of the York Mail Group have over the past four years expanded at a great rate. At the start of the expansion Craig Goddard of Centre Web asked Alibone Recycling if they would upgrade their existing compactor and side loader arrangement for a pneumatic conveying trim plant. The manual handling of the large amounts of edge trim from the two web presses and the edge trimmings from two rotary cutters was too labour intensive and caused a significant house keeping problem.
Mark Gray of Alibone Recycling asked Nicholls Air Systems to investigate what was the best option available. The first phase was for a two week turnaround. Second hand equipment was used to get the machinery up and running. The second phase occurred when a Bindery room was added to the existing layout. The complete trim extraction plant was moved and doubled in size. A twin compactor arrangement was included to meet the demand of the busy machines.
The type of work undertaken by Centre Web is sometimes prone to “static”, this can cause the trim to build up inside the separators. A fine water spray attachment is fitted to overcome this problem. The spray is electrically interlocked with the fans starting up and shutting down.
